What am I required to do in this assignment?
Assignment is an individual report which the student demonstrates knowledge and understanding on certain topic.
You are required to choose a local business organization operating in Oman and evaluate the business operation along the
management functions of Planning. You are required to identify and describe the types of planning the company is doing and
evaluate how these plans are carried out. You are also required to identify the issues faced in the course of the planning and
implementation and the ethical principles adhered by the organization.
In order to sufficiently address the task, you will have to refer back to the lecture notes and gather theoretical information to
substantiate and display the level of critical thinking required. Moreover, your written report should follow the tasks below:




Provide a theoretical background of the planning function and the types of planning. This can be substantiated by your
readings and references from academically accepted sources.
Discuss the planning activities of the chosen organization like the types of plans and how the plans are implemented.
Discuss the issues faced by the company in carrying out their plans.
Suggest measures or recommendations to address the issues or challenges in consonance with the organization’s ethical
principles.
Report Structure
Your report should include an introduction, theoretical information, discussion of the main task, conclusion and references.
Overall, your report should be scholarly written.

At the time of submission, you need to make sure that the assignment is your own and all the sources have been acknowledged.
Submission of the individual written report will be done via Turnitin Link on MOVE. At the time of submission, you need to

Additional Guidelines








The Assignment Submission link on MOVE will be open, a week ahead of the submission date.
You can submit your assignment multiple times, till the submission deadline. Note that Turnitin could take up to 24 hours to
produce similarity reports for submissions.
The last submission, within the deadline, will be considered as your final submission.
Assignments should be submitted by 6 pm on the day of the deadline. There is a grace period until midnight to allow for any
technical difficulties, but any assignments submitted after this will be counted as late. Technical problems will not be
accepted as an excuse for submitting after the day of the deadline.
You are required to tick to confirm the statement: “I confirm that this assignment is my own and all sources have
been acknowledged. I understand that the use of other people’s work or ideas without acknowledgement is plagiarism and
could result in failing the assignment”. You will not be able to submit the assignment without ticking this box.
The similarity percentage of your final submission will be one of the factors considered, for assessing the originality of your
assignment. However, the decision to report an assignment for plagiarism is taken by the Lecturers, who mark your
assignment.
The Lecturers will consider a number of factors such as Assignment type, Part of the assignment where similarity occurs,
Nature of similarity etc., along with the similarity percentage of your assignment, to assess the originality of your assignment.
Therefore, similarity percentage would not be accepted as a basis for disputing academic judgments regarding plagiarism.
Note that the similarity percentage of your submission can change till the submission deadline, if the submissions of other
students have similarity to your assignment. Therefore, the similarity percentages are not final, till the assignment
submission is closed.

The report should be written comprehensively in no less than nor more than 1500 words +/- 10%. It should follow the font
Times New Romans, 1.5 spacing and 12 font size.

In order to produce high quality output in this assessment that merits higher marks, you will need to:
Demonstrate an exemplary and scholarly application of knowledge and understanding of the concepts as defined in the criteria
for marking which is over and above the minimum conditions. Moreover, it should show evidence of wide readings and critical,
logical, and substantive analyses and evaluation of the topics relating to management functions.
How does assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?
The assignment will cover the topic on the essential management functions particularly the planning function, types of
planning, identifying the issues and challenges and how these issues and challenges be addressed ethically. The assignment is
an avenue to showcase the student’s learning outside the classroom.
In the course of the task preparation, there will be orientation and briefing to guide the students the proper things to do in
complying the assignment task. Thus, during the briefing sessions, students will be given the opportunity to ask questions for
clarification and enlightenment. The orientation should be a venue to help the students to properly carry out the tasks
accordingly, but they are expected to do it outside the class sessions.
