Israel’s military tactics during the Six Day War
HIS 223
SNHU
3/15/2020
The Six Day war between Israel and the Arab States of Egypt, Syria, and Jordan lasted
from June 5th, 1967 until June 10th, 1967. In just 132 hours of fighting more than 20,000 Arab
soldiers and 800 Israeli soldiers died. Tensions between Israel and the surrounding Arab nations
had been high since the Arab-Israeli War of 1948. Blocked shipping routes led to an Israeli
invasion of Egypt in 1956 as an attempt to reopen the Straits of Tiran. Border disputes would
continue even after and ultimately lead to the Six Day War. Israel’s use of preemptive air strikes
along with new tank technology would ultimately lead to Israel’s victory in the Six Day War.
Israeli success was by and large due to a well prepared and well executed military strategy.
