Every student will be required to submit an individually researched and written short analytical essay based on two of the four required Case Study readings. These will be in the form of 2-3 double-spaced pages to be submitted and discussed in the designated class.

Here are some guideline questions you can address in analyzing those case studies

1. Explain the “big bets” strategy – evaluate if it was a success or a failure, list the pros and cons and think what the risks/rewards of pursuing such a strategy might be in today’s media and entertainment landscape?

2. What were key ingredients of Swan’s business plan for launching Nickelodeon in Latin America? How might that change if Taran Swan was launching her channel today?

3. Analyze Tara’s personnel selection and recruiting process. (And who would you have picked from her team to replace her during maternity leave?)

4. What were Swann’s personal strengths? Would her particular skill-set work today?

5. Evaluate the total continent “Pan-Latin America Program” vs. “A Single Country Plan”.

6. What parallels can you see between Nickelodeon’s launch in Latin America and the launch of a media or entertainment service today?

Please take time to organize your work so that it is clear and concise. Where appropriate, papers should open with an introduction that lays out the general thesis and the background to what is being discussed. The main body should present findings in a logical and straightforward way. Summarize your findings or recommendations at the end in a conclusion. Break up your work into chapters and/or subheadings.
